[27 April/The Country]

Pup Chamberlain, Community Public Health Wellness Promoter and former Police Officer spoke to Volunteers and Managers in Ashburton early on in April around mental health. Mr Chamberlain reported that Volunteers need to look after their own selves first before they can help others. Volunteers attending the wellbeing workshop came from a variety of organisations such as Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Civil Defence. The session covered wellness, reflection and sleep and was led by Mr Chamberlain who engaged the audience through his own experiences, especially on sharing the tragic side of volunteering with someone rather than bottling up the feelings. Mr Chamberlain also spoke about ensuring coping strategies are actually helping and to get professional help if needed.
