Alliance Group has committed to a $7.5 million upgrade at its Pukeuri meat works, the company’s biggest investment since 2006. The upgrade would involve the commissioning of robotic cutting machinery in the boning room. The machinery would feature an X-ray unit that analysed each carcass and instructed two cutting machines where to cut. Alliance Group Pukeuri Plant Manager, Geoff Proctor said the technology meant higher product yields and safety benefits. The upgrade meant slightly fewer people were needed in the boning room, but no employees would be made redundant.
