Alliance Group wished to set the record straight on its application to recruit 100 temporary workers from overseas. It said there had been inaccurate information about the company not employing local people, and suggesting its employment criteria were too strict. The company noted there was a documented shortage of skilled and unskilled candidates for its industry and across other sectors. It had recently launched a recruitment drive to encourage local applicants. It added its preference was to employ people from local communities, and only where they could not source sufficient skills locally would they look at all available options. Alliance noted it did not pay overseas people any less, it did not discriminate employment on any basis and was committed to working constructively with the unions to address its challenges.
