[13 August/Food Navigator] A study comparing the effects of vegan, vegetarian, and omnivorous diets on biodiverse ‘hotspots’ in the tropics has been published by researchers in Scotland and Germany. Current agricultural practices are threatening the world’s biodiversity and a study revealed that high levels of plant-based diets due to greatly reduced agricultural expansion and intensification in biodiverse hotspots are affected. The researchers recommend building awareness, increasing education and government regulation.
