The world’s largest food company Nestle is launching its own meat-like plant burger. The plant-based burger has been coined the Awesome Burger, and was developed by Sweet Earth, a brand acquired by Nestle in 2017. The brand already makes more traditional veggie burgers that do not mimic meat but have added the plant-based option to its portfolio in response to consumer preferences. The recipe is designed to be healthier than beef, with 28 grams of protein contained, iron, fibre and has no saturated fat. Yellow peas are a key part of the recipe, which provide protein and are more sustainable than soy.
