[05 August/Food Navigator] Mondelez International is reducing the size of it biscuits and chocolate commonly purchased by children to under 100 calories in the UK and Ireland. Some products are being changed by September this year such as Cadbury Mini Fingers and Animals, with more changing by the end of next year, including Cadbury bars, Fudge and Curly Wurly. Final products will change in 2021. Mondelez report that the size reduction instead of reformulation is occurring because of the company’s commitment to taste and state that the move is in line with its commitment to tackle childhood obesity. Research has shown portion sizes and promoting portion control is one of the most effective ways to tackle obesity.
