[31 July/Forbes] Impossible Foods has entered into a co-manufacturing partnership with major food producer OSI Group to help the California-based start-up increase the production capacity of its flagship product, the Impossible Burger. The company’s key ingredient, heme, which makes its burgers “bleed,” also got approval from the US Food & Drug Administration today, opening up retail stores as a new channel for the plant-based burger business. Impossible Food’s biggest rival Beyond Meat has just released a mixed quarterly earnings, and the announcement of a share sale reduced stock price by 1 percent. Both companies have struggled to keep up with demand for plant-based meat. Consumers have been left unsatisfied as supply has not been manageable to all the restaurants and supermarkets they have committed to.
