The D.C Superior Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Animal Legal Defence Fund (ALDF) that alleged ‘’natural’’ claims on Hormel’s packaging were misleading customers. The court ruled that if the U.S. Department of Agriculture allows the labelling then the manufacturer should be allowed to use the same terminology in advertising. ALDF intends to appeal the ruling. Court documents showed that the pigs are administered antibiotics and not given access to the outdoors. The use of the word ‘’natural’’ is under question in the U.S and regulators are under pressure to define it.
