[12 August/Food Navigator] French start-up Siga has developed a label that ranks food according to its degree of processing. The system aims to help consumers select the ‘most natural and healthy’ products on the shelf. Front of pack labelling is starting to get emphasised by health campaigners and governments to help consumers understand more about the food they will consume. Siga aims to show products that are ultra-processed and has a three level ranking system and also allocates medals to products that the company recommends. Siga focuses on manufacturing methods used by companies and also provides recommendations on how to reformulate and improve the product.
