European Union Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmstrom and Japanese Foreign minister, Taro Kono have revealed that the final discussions on the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) have now been concluded. The EPA was the largest bilateral agreement ever negotiated with the European Union and would strengthen cooperation between Europe and Japan in areas such as sustainable development. Europe’s food sector was expected to be a chief beneficiary of the new trading relationship as it provided European food exporters with access to Japan’s 127 million consumers.
