New Zealand Cherry Corp, in Cromwell has recently bought a neighbouring 244 hectare block of farmland to double their orchard size and have plans to build worker accommodation for its seasonal staff on 4 of those hectares. Director Paul Croft said the expansion will allow the firm to employ 200 to 300 more workers. Central Otago Mayor Tim Cadogan said the development was part of a growing trend in the area. The cherry block is the largest netted orchard in New Zealand and exports to 10 countries.
