Sequal Lumber, a Kawerau saw mill has signed a deal with a Saudi Arabian customer that will more than double its current exports to the Middle Eastern country. The deal also could mean they would potentially ship around 1500 containers of processed wood products annually. David Turner, Executive Director reported that the deal is a significant one, however would not name the customer due to commercial sensitivities. The deal was signed in November and would move to its next level this year, with Mr Turner expecting orders to ramp up in the next two years. 200 containers will be sent in the initial trial run with only processed timber being sent. Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones applauds the deal and the good work it will do for the country.
