Food Rescue Northland has created 9020 meals from 5 tonnes of food that would have otherwise ended up in Whangarei landfill. These meals have been used to feed those in need. The group, led by One Double Five Community House Charity, collects surplus food from Whangarei growers/retailers and distributes them to high need communities across Northland. The initiative officially launches on Wednesday but started collecting and distributing food on 3 July after a survey by the District Health Board identified the need for the service. One Double Five were approached in October last year and jumped on board to lead the initiate.
