[03 September/The Country] Federated Farmers state that the steady progress AgResearch is making on field trials of environment-friendly GM ryegrass in the US should act as a push for NZ to get on with a mature national conversation about genetic modification. President Katie Milne stated that we’re currently side-lining a potential major tool that could help farmers tackle ruminant methane and excreted nitrogen. AgResearch has reported that its experiments in the US were about showing whether the new potentially environmentally-sustainable grass would perform in the field in a similar way to how it performed in controlled studies, and has announced initial results are encouraging.
