Customers across the North Island will soon be able to use their own containers for over-the-counter butchery, seafood, delicatessen and bakery items at Foodstuff owned supermarkets in an effort to eliminate waste. The service will be made available for New World, Pak’n’Save and Four Square stores after a number of successful trials at select stores. Containers will need to be clean and leak-proof so staff can inspect cleanliness. The weight of the container will be subtracted from the product being purchased, which is why for now, bulk bins are not included. The new service is set to go live in Auckland’s New World Long Bay on May 28, before rolling out to other North Island Foodstuff stores from June 1.
