[9 February/National Business Review]

Climate Change Minister James Shaw hoped the National Party would support the government’s climate change legislation, but said it will have to meet National’s worries about its impact on the economy. Mr Shaw added that it will be a complicated decision for National to vote for the Zero Carbon bill. National leader Bill English noted they supported the Green Party’s climate change initiatives, and saw it as a good way to build closer relations with the Green Party. Sectors such as transport would be affected the most by changes to reduce carbon emissions. However, their increased costs might be offset by savings through the use of greener vehicles.
