A fourth Japanese ship has been turned away from New Zealand for having the brown marmorated stink bug on board. Six hundred of the bugs were found on the Glovis Caravel while the ship was anchored near Auckland. The Ministry for Primary Industries said the risk was too high for the ship to remain in New Zealand waters, and that it had to be treated offshore before being allowed back. The brown marmorated stink bug has the potential to devastate New Zealand’s crops destroying more than $4 billion of export value according to a report by the New Zealand Institute for Economic Research.
