[7 September/ Business Day: NZ Farmer]

Marlborough District Council Mayor, Alistair Sowman said the Government may be required to step in if Marlborough marine farmers and community groups did not cooperate with the council to review aquaculture policies. Environment Committee Deputy Chairman, David Oddie said the initial deadline for the new aquaculture regulations was Christmas, but he no longer thought that was possible. More than 1,000 submissions on the plan were submitted. The enactment date for the plan is set for 2018, before which the existing rules would remain in place.
