DairyNZ scholars Beth Hampton and Jemima Snook recently represented New Zealand at the 2017 Youth Ag-Summit. They flew to Brussels last October to take part. They both found the experience to be invaluable and one that reinforced their passion of the industry. Jemima said that the summit discussions made it clear there were real similarities between New Zealand and other developed countries. She noted that ‘the issues affecting New Zealand agriculture are not unique to us. Other countries are facing the same public pressure in terms of the environment and animal welfare.’ In New Zealand, there was an increasing need for effective and proactive communication as the dairy sector was increasingly aware of consumer and public perception.
